The City of Isanti is a proud member of the Minnesota GreenStep Cities.

On August 5, 2015, the Isanti City Council approved Resolution 2015-181 authorizing the City to participate in the GreenStep program which is a voluntary challenge, assistance and recognition program designed to help cities achieve their sustainability and quality-of-life goals.

This free continuous improvement program, managed by a public-private partnership, is based upon 29 best practices. Each best practice can be implemented by completing one or more actions at a 1, 2 or 3-star level, from a list of four to eight actions. These action are tailored to all Minnesota cities, focused on cost savings and energy use reduction, and encourage civic innovation.

Each June, the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) formally recognizes cities for their communities sustained commitment and continuous improvement. Isanti became a Step One city on August 5th, 2015 with the passing of a resolution committing to the GreenStep program.  In less than one year, Isanti has surpassed Step Two to become a Step Three city.  The City will be officially awarded and recognized as becoming a Step Three city at the LMC conference on June 15th, 2016.  A list of the Best Practices completed by Isanti and their corresponding star rating can be found here.

What makes a GreenStep City:

Each City is placed in a category based on their population, number of City employees, types of infrastructure, available transportation and other related items. The categories are A, B and C.  Isanti is a category B city. The category a city is in, determines the number of Best Practice actions that city needs to complete in each of the five categories (Buildings and Lighting, Land Use, Transportation, Environmental Management and Economic & Community Development).

Each City is recognized as a Step One, Two or Three based on the number of Best Practices that are completed.

- Step One is recognition is earned by committing to the Minnesota GreenStep   Cities Program.

- Step Two, for Category B cities, is earned by implementing a minimum of 6 Best   Practices.

- Step Three, for Category B cities, is earned by implementing a minimum of 12     Best Practices.

Where else can I see how well Isanti is performing?

logoB3Benchmarking4   As part of the GreenStep Program, cities are required to track their energy usage through the Minnesota B3 Benchmarking website.  the website provides a simple way to determine the amount of energy each city facility is using and how improvements affect the energy usage.  A direct link to Isanti's B3 Benchmarking webiste can be found here

What's Next:

Isanti will continue to work on completing and enhancing the Best Practices (BP) outlined by the Minnesota GreenStep Cities program, to include BP's that are not part of the required set outlined for Category B cities. As part of the GreenStep program, each city is required to create a committee charged with ensuring a continued effort towards a sustainable community. Isanti formed a GreenStep Committee that meets routinely to review and stategize how best to improve the quality of life for its residents.
